They do what every other Christian religion does, they take the parts of the bible they want and follow the bits they like.
They are a bit like Jews who have accepted Jesus.
They are Sabbath keepers, so they follow the Jews in this respect. Sunset Friday until Sunset Saturday, they try to follow biblical guidance on what they can and cant do.
They wont do any work on the Sabbath but specialized work they can justify in Biblical terms, such as medical work, because Jesus was a healer.
They follow what they call the health message contained within the Bible, so there diet is Kosher, and a lot of them are vegetarian and many are vegan.
They also are big on vanity, so personal adornments are out.
From your question I think you need professional counseling as SDAs are very cult-like and there pastors are trained in there own university's (such as Loma LInda) and are taught to use Neuro linguistic programing to great effect. so you are probably in need of a cult specialist ( like the guys who deprogram moonies)
David Koresh (Waco) lead a break away seventh day Adventist sect.
They unlike a lot of other Christians will enter into debates with Atheists such as myself, I have even been invited to give the occasional lecture at my local SDA Church, they regard it as a test of there faith if they can hold there own in an open debate with me.

What country do you live in?
why don't you tape the programs that are broadcast on Friday and Saturday and then you could watch them Sunday-Thursday.
What religion does your father practice?
Why don't you go to the Seventh Day Adventists web site and read up on their tenets?
Then you will be able to know just what your mom believes as well as how SDA have come to believe and teach (preach) as they do.
Just for the record; some faiths (Judaism) where they are forbidden to ride or drive a car on the sabbath.
Another; Pentecostals are not allowed to drink, dance, skate, gamble, the women wear pants, watch movies, certain TV shows or even listen to the radio.
You sound as though you still live at home with your parents. If so, ,just pray for the day when you can choose your own religion.

Like most "religions" SDA's have some truth in their teachings. However, their willingness to accept Ellen White as a prophetess, though she specifically stated she was NOT a prophet, is a red flag. If I'm not mistaken, there are some SDA's who reject EW writings regarding healthcare, lifestyle etc, and question how reliable they are in doctrinal matters. Any religion which follows the most basic truths of Christianity, will appear overly strict when you're attempting to transition from the world. Although SDA's do acknowledge certain practices that other Christians do not. Out of curiosity, why did you place your question in this particular category?

Hello!
Oh, boy, your drama is the the drama of many other young people!
Sometimes the parent's mistake is to force the kids to go to church. People get to see the church as a boring place. "Be quiet!", "do not do this", do not do that". "You can't eat pork", "you can't drink alcholol", "you can't smoke, you can't..."; and the list could go on. You were too little when you quit church, but I've seen some kids that love Jesus even in their young years. You might remember that famous Bible text that says,
"Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth, Before the difficult days come, And the years draw near when you say, ' I have no pleasure in them':" (Ecclesiastes 12:1)
I've seen so many young people come and leave from the church. Some of them return. There are others that, when having trouble, ask their families to pray for them, and they even visit church sometimes.
Do you want to know why you shouldn't eat... pepperonni?
What is pepperonni? Isn't it pork? Is pork good for health?
I invite you to do your own research about it. You'll find out that the meat of pork is one of the worst to eat. It's just not healthy. The pork carries some little insect or microorganism that, though it's not harmful for him, it is for humans.
Did God warn us against eating pork? Yes (read Leviticus 11, for example).
I haven't heard anything about getting a surgery. I don't see anything wrong about it, and actually, if you need it, why not? Seventh-day Adventists are well-known for their health care. They're one of the churches that run most hospitals in the world (one example, the one found in Loma Linda, California).
Many people --Christians and non-christians-- don't think that a casino is an ideal place. Even in the United States of America, as long as I know the only ones that can run a casino are Native Americans, and only in their reservations. Almost everytime a casino is going to be built, there's a debate whether they should build it or not, because many people don't like the idea.

Oh, television. Sometimes some of the best tv programs, or the most wanted games, are screened on saturday. I'm sure you may know what God says about the seventh day. You might have learned when God sanctified it (Genesis 2:2,3), and the place it takes on His Law (Exodus 20:8-11). I mean, I don't need to write about what you shouldn't watch tv from friday night to saturday night. You know already how important that day is for God and what He asks from you. You need to love the Lord. I kind of understand you, it's impossible to obey when there's not love. You need to love the Lord. He loves you; either you love Him back or not, He does love you more than His own life, and there's nothing you can't do to change that.
It is only when we love God that Christian life makes sense, and it's beautiful and happy, and fun! I got 20 years being Seventh-day Adventist. Just like you, I grew up in church, assisting Sabbath School, sermon of the Sabbath morning, Youth Society... you know what am talking about; I'm sure you do. I'm a young man, and being a Christian hasn't stopped me or forbidden me to have fun. Actually, my favourite day is the Sabbath. It is the day when one can feel God's presence closer than any other day. I enjoy worship God and learning more about His matchless love for me and His beautiful character, meeting my friends, the people, fellowship meals (when there is a meal), sometimes going out to do some missionary work (we should do it more often!), playing on saturday night or just talking with folks... I mean, a church is a great family! There are many activities where you don't only learn but also have fun. But everything makes sense when Jesus is the center. Who said that Jesus was a boring Man? He's certainly not! If Jesus was a boring Man, the children wouldn't have felt attracted to Him, and they ran to Him by dozens! Jesus is the happiest Man ever, although the great burden that rested on His shoulders -- saving a world that didn't deserve it neither love Him; a world whose habitants, most of them, would not accept His sacrifice for them and despise Him, and yet He faced death with courage and braveness because He loved the world so much (read John 3:16). Jesus died for every person as though he/she were the only one in danger.
Christianity is not against having fun. What cost do you pay for having fun? Do you need to get drunk in order to have fun? Do you need to use drugs, or smoke to be cool? The difference is that Christians know how to have fun without risking one's health. Actually, Christians have fun and, at the same time, they're strengthening their body, mind, social relationships, and (why not?) their relationship between Jesus and them. Christians are the happiest persons! Nothing brings more happiness than having Jesus --your best Friend-- in your heart, knowing that there's One who loves you more than anything else despise your mistakes and imperfect character, and knowing you're saved by Him.
But, Jesus has to be in the heart. If He's not, then the carnal nature is in charge, the one who doesn't like spiritual things, the one who focuses on "don't do that", "don't do this". But when God is in your heart, those appareantly "rules" become what they really are: advices for your good, for your happiness, because no one cares about you and your happiness more than God.
Please, invite Jesus into your heart. Just talk to Him and ask Him to make favorable change in you, and He'll do it.
I'll be praying for you, buddy.

God bless you!
