Florance Nightingale- made nursing a respectable career
Socrates- early philosopher/scientist/medical person

King Henry VIII- Invented Anglicanism
Dr. John Snow- (this one is cool). There was this massive cholera outbreak in London. It basically happened so that you would catch it from drinking water that had fecal matter in it from an infected person. Within 24 hours you would basically shrivel up from being so dehydrated and a ton of people died. Dr. Snow managed to figure out how it was spread and saved numerous lives. There is ton's of info on this not so well known man.
Solon and Cleisthanes- the inventors of democracy in Greece in 500 AD (approx).
Laura Secord- famous Canadian woman surrounded by myth who supposedly saved Canada from annihilation by the Americans during the war if 1812 by traveling a few hundred kilometres on foot to warn General Brock about an attack that was about to occur
