Probably because more money was witheld during the year, because he made more.

Remember when you started your job, you filled out the W-4 form? That form tells the federal gov't how much money to withold. He probably filled his out so more is withheld.

His employer may have taken off too much tax on his income. It really depends on what was removed. Of course there are many other things that could factor into it (dependants etc.) but all things being equal it really depends on what the employer took off each paycheck!

that's why--the moe you make, the more you pay. Unless you're a major corporation, then you'll pay less than your brother!
