Puffer fish come to mind, they do a fair job. I'm not so up on brackish as I once was. Hopefully some other people will have some other ideas.

Otocinclus are highly recommended. They do not grow large or be come aggressive so they will work in a nice calm quiet tank. Golden algea eaters can become large and a little agggressive. For a 20 gallon tank, I would suggest 4 to 5 otocinclus.
Some people call them otos for short.

How large of a tank? What salinity? What tankmates?
Most "freshwater" fish can do well in salt at 1 Tbsp/gallon or more, so don't rule out these species.
For a small tank, I like Otocinclus catfish - these stay under 2". Siamese (not Chinese) algae eaters, and plecostomous (wide range of species [and sizes]). And don't forget mollies and guppies! They will eat algae and can be kept in high salt concentrations.

Nerite snails do good in freshwater, brackishwater, and marine. Plus they don't breed in anything other than full marine. There are no good algae eating fish for brackishwater.
Remember people, the asker wants brackishwater algae eaters. Ottos and plecos are purely freshwater fish.
