One - show that you have the skills necessary to make the team - ball-handling, passing, shooting. Two - show that you are a "team" player - "glory hounds" are a dime a dozen on the playgrounds and in the city parks of America. Three - also show that you are willing to work - to make yourself better and to make your teammates better at EVERY practice. Four - be ready, willing, and able to play defense - that ability alone might get you on the team over someone else who is totally offensively-oriented. Five - be COACHABLE - if you act like you "know it all" and don't want to take criticism to improve your game, NO coach in the world will be willing to let you on his team. Six - HUSTLE! Coaches love players who will "run through walls" to be able to play. Don't complain! Don't sit down because "I'm tired!" Seven - try not to make the same mistake over and over again. It's called LEARNING ABILITY - the baksetball coach is a teacher like your math or science teacher. He enjoys teaching the game to players who listen and learn.

For many high schools, there are summer workouts where you work on agility, strength, and of course basketball. It is crucial to go to these if your school has them, because it is there that the high school coaches will get to know you, your basketball skills, and determination to make the team. Ask a friend on the high school basketball team if there are any workouts.

The most important thing to make ANY team? 100% 100% of the time.
