These seem so so old-fashioned in the fast paced high tech world of today. The Waltons and Little House on the Prairie have been replaced by Desperate Housewives. I think it's a sad state of affairs. I regret that in my youth I aspired to be more like Farah Fawcett than Caroline Ingalls. I hope it isn't too late.

Morality, Ethics, Kindness and Love were all crucified on the cross of Hedonism and Political Correctness by Liberals for their own selfish ends. It is never too late to start practicing such traits. The sooner begun the better.

Nothing old-fashioned about those ideas--they're still around, and you can even find them on the tube. And every generation has its questionable icons--boys in the 1950s wanted to be Brando or James Dean, and lots of young women in the 1920s wanted to be "dangerous" like Clara Bow or Theda Bara. And Victorian London was replete with both brothels and churches--and between about 1890-1910 everything was into Spiritualism (seances and that sort of thing). President Grant's administration was one of the most corrupt we've ever seen in the US, and dueling to settle arguments was considered honorable if not de rigeur in 1776.

And keep in mind, in order for the Ingalls family to move onto their land, the US government had to forcibly remove the Native Americans who were there in the first place. And some of the Plains States were homes to houses where respectable families could send their unwed but pregnant daughters until the baby arrived, to avoid local scandal. Nothing new under the sun.

It's never too late. If you want to be like Caroline Ingalls, go for it!

Morality, ethics, kindness and love are still around. Watch the show that precedes Desperate Housewives. Extreme Makeover: Home Edition always picks me up when I feel like the world has gone to hell in a hand basket. There you'll find people that actually care about other people.

Those are all virtues that still exist. In the midst of the communication revolution, people lose sight of how screwed up the world has always been. Think about cnn covering the civil war, or any war up to Korea. Thousands of people dying each day. Casualty lists that were kept secret from the public. Think about the opression of african americans, or women's sufferage. There are great horrors of our past, and I believe that the apparent lapse in morality by means of the television set does not constitute the degredation of society. Love is still felt. More often than not people do the right thing. Honor still lives in the hearts of people. We are flooded with every negative thing that happens all around the world, and the truth is, the present is pretty tame compared to the past. It is our compassion that has brought us closer to technological advancement, and medical care. We are interested in what goes on in impossibly far places, because we are able to see them, first hand through camera lenses, and satellites. The world is full of hope. One can either be optimistic about it, or one can dwell on the negative aspects of it. The fact of the matter is that the world is a better place than it was 100 years ago.

They're still just as prevalent, be assured. But we have lost the idea that media is there to inform, not to entertain through cheap tricks. I agree with you, and though I am watching Desperate Housewives, I watch little house on the prairie too, so I hope there's a happy medium.

Hello,
Virtues -all virtue is a product of right thinking.

It is never too late to pursue being a channel of divine love which produces peace, morality, respect, kindness and ethical behavior.

Seek to embrace TRUTH in your every day living.
Let go of false self...false images of yourself.

Practice being still once or twice a day in silence.

Just be you....
Not someone another person wants you to be.

Remember God is closer than thinking...closer than breathing!
Think about that!
How close is this?

And God can never be far from you, no matter what you've done in the past.
God's love is unconditional and everlasting.
Lay down Farah Fawcett.
Take up the True you!

The objectivity of morality and ethics has devolved into cultural and individual relativistic standards. Frederick Nietzsche warned us of this occurring over 110 years ago. Even an atheistic philosopher could see this. Human beings need to replace subjective morality and ethics with objective morality and ethics. This is why there is so much confusion in this country. Unfortunately, people reject absolutes in morality and ethics, because that means there is a right and a wrong.

I don't think it is gone at all. It seems that with each new generation, the past generation criticizes it with respect to the loss of morality, etc. Think of how Elvis and his "risky dancing" was first accepted into society. The times change with each new generation, and the morality, ethics, kindness, and love change with it.

On the thought of new TV shows being like desperate Housewives instead of how they used to be, I could say that you may be focusing on the bad. Sex is more open into today's generation, and sleazy shows like that are bound to get onto television because of it. Don't let that keep you from enjoying shows like Extreme makeover, or movies on the hallmark channel.

It's never too late. Go for your dreams, but more importantly, have fun.

New television shows have different meanings than they used to have. Now, they are more focused on entertainment, giving people a side of life that they don't get to experience themselves. In the past, TV shows were primarily fucused on presenting good values.

Morals and ethics have been long gone, and are still depreciating throughout the years.

I hope I was helpful. Good luck!

Totally agree... unfortunately in the world everything is winding down... the best thing that you can do is search for the Truth and seek to be the Light in the world that you can.

It's not hopeless... there've been a lot period in the past when people have despaired... ie. Great Depression, WW1, WW2, etc. Have faith and hope that things will get better...

Back to the question... the breakdown of the nuclear family, acceptance by society of immoral behaviour (ie. cohabitation, premarital and extra-marital sex, etc.) has taken its toll.. but every vice has it's price... just look at the increase in cervical cancer due to HPV (a sexually transmitted disease)...

Have hope!
