A .sys file is actually just a text file, like Config.sys. A driver file will end in .drv....

A .sys file is in machine language. You can't "open" it. You can display it by opening it with something like Notebook, but all you will see is a bunch of ASCII code. If your computer can't "open" it, then the file is corrupted or there is something wrong with the installation. Think of a .sys file as a library. Your computer needs reference material to know how to run your adaptor. If the .sys file doesn't work, then there's a problem that you certainly can't fix by viewing the file's contents. If you're downloading a driver, the hardware either recognizes that file as something it can use, or it's the wrong .sys file.

"you" perse dont need to open the file. Have windows do it for you. When installing a network adapter, navigate to device manager, (right click on my computer--->properties--->hardware tab) From there open device manager. Your device shold be in yellow b/c windows sees it but doesnt know what to do. Right click the device, choose update driver and tell windows where to look for the .sys driver. PS It helps a lot when you put all the device drivers in a folder and point to that. Hope this helps

For a .sys file you would goto the device manager (right click on my computer/properties/hardware/device manager). Then click on the icon for you adapter (probably the one with the yellow tag on it) and click on change/update/or install driver. When the box comes up for the driver, choose the option where you can locate it yourself and then point in to the .sys file you downloaded.

I'm not a geek, but have you rebooted your computer after you downloaded the driver. Sometimes your pop up blocker or security will not allow downloads. Read the download instructions carefully. Good luck.

update the drivers of the network adapter from device manager. use advanced and when it asks for the drivers location choose the folder where it is saved.
