my laptop wont play or burn cds .?

i have a dell inspirion 1200
and it came with dvd and cd-rom and so i can copy and burn cds.
but i think i deleted the drive becuase i tried to burn a cd and i used to do it before but when i insert a cd it doesn't read it and this little pop appears saying i need a cd drive what the hell do i do if i deleted the drive file would i have to reinstall the windows xp software.?

The answer is yes, reinstall XP unless you have a separate disk with the CD burner's driver on it. Or maybe you could download a new driver from the CD's manufacturer's web site. Try that before reinstalling XP.
