Much, much, much better than in most parts of the world and a whole hell of a lot better than in the 1700s or 1600's. God bless the industrial revolution and the liberty that gave it to us.

As bad as the next poster claims it to be, it was a paradise for the people as compared to where they came from. For some reason, liberalism has eliminated this reality from the mindset of our population.

Bad stuff. Lots of immigrants arriving daily form Europe and working for almost no pay in order to live in tenements. Unionization came along to help out against the monoploies, but the cities were in bad shape. Lots more stuff but that's what I can remember in a quick minute.
