He'd need a bogus name that matched the ss number and an address to mail a refund to. Then he'd need a bogus ID in order to cash the check. The question shouldn't be can he, it should be SHOULD he? NO. If he does he is a thief of those who work here legally. He is a thief to those who want to come here because of much more important reasons (like safety) than to just make money.

I don't think he should be able to. He didn't actually pay the taxes, probably took all the exemptions he could on his check, now he wants the government to give him a refund. Trust me I worked in the gas industry payroll department here in texas, I saw 20 guys leave, because there social security didn't match up. Of course they all claimed exempt from taxes. so the only thing they did was cost the real owner of that social security money.

How can he file taxes without his OWN SS#. He should be deported for stealing the identity of a citizen. That is a crime!

Your "friend" will get caught. The name and ssn number must match up even if he can provide a name to go along with the number he will need VALID ID to cash the check.

i would suspect that his bogus number will be flagged by the IRS and he'd wind up getting deported.

it may not be a bogus number. just not his. even if he made the number up, it may still be valid. the irs doesn't care as long as they get paid. they're not going to try to verify he is who he is unless there's a big red flag.

not really. The employer would catch crap for it. That's kinda one of the reason why illegal immigrants aren't always welcome. The taxes help the system they're staying in run, and they're here without that contribution.
