The guy is great. Everything you said is true. Mac and Cliff Drysdale have both said he is the best ever. Tennis players can not run around like morons and taunt and talk trash you lose focus . Federer , Serve has every serve and can place it anywhere. He kicked one second up to Gonzalezs backhand he had to leap 3 feet in the air to get his raquet on it , then at the other end of the spectrum hits a slice out wide for an ace on match point. Best Footwork in the game. Is able to figure out exactly how many steps and how hard he has to go before he starts . Is never out of position, never rushed.
Forehand is unreal , shortball automatic winner. Volleys the best since Rafter. Backhand, one of the few guys who can hit it offensively , and pass regularly. Return of serve, see the Roddick Match.
I think he is worth watching. I think he solved Nadal, he showed the other players how to beat his one dimensional game, by flattening shots out against him. No one will figure Federer until he loses a step or has some injury.
The guy is great there is no down side to him and no decent argument can be made that he is boring unless you have never played a sport any sport at a competitive level. He is a pretty high bar for young guys to try and undertake. There are two guys Federer and Woods that are once in a generation guys , we are pretty lucky.

Roger is not boring. Even if one knows the result the game doesn't get less exciting. You should watch the Roddick match. Roger hit winners from such tight corners with sharp angles which couldn't have been hit by any other guy. The shots are breathtaking and he makes everything look so elegant and classy and simple. And showing sportsmanship and being modest is no reason to put someone down.
It's the other players problem if they can't catch up with someone whom i firmly believe is the best of all times.

i think his playing style is very complete.. Hes an incredibly classy guy and a great athlete and ambassador for tennis. The reason people may find him boring.. Theyre just finding the outcome of the match boring. He wins every match(outside clay) he plays pretty much. He lost FIVE matches in one year to two people and 4 of those matches were to the same person on his favorite and really only surface. People like drama and Federes matches dont find drama. So while Federer will wow the tennis enthusiast, he wont bring in the casual fan. Federer will easily reach 17-18 slams.

I totally agree with you, although you can expect him to win, so he is predictable. But in defense of his predictability, he is also fascinating to watch, at least as far as I am concerned. He seems to always have that 'total control'. I just wish he had a good rival to deal with. It is a shame that there is really no one out there right now to give him a hard time, not for him, but for us fans. I had a sliver of hope in Gonzalez, but he has a long way to go to be anywhere remotely close to being a threat to Fed-X. Don't ya just sometimes wish there was someone, just one other guy who could measure up there close to the Fed? I do. No, Roger is never boring. Everyone else is.

It sounds very much like the tall-poppy syndrome doesn't it?
Once we have a world class athlete (actor, singer, author - anything at all really), the public looks for ways to put them down.
It's a disgrace really.
Roger is a true champion, athlete, gentleman and role model (I doubt there will be another like him for years to come).
Personally, like you, I love to watch him on court.
Leave him be to do what he does best.
I still remember the dreadful court-side antics of John McEnroe; give me a well-behaved athlete any day.

I think he's very boring.
His tennis is immaculate, and he's a great spokesman for tennis. But for me he doesn't have an edge. It doesn't help that he wins everything (but that's something his oppents need to work on)...I mean I refuse to watch him play his matches, because I know he's going to win relatively easily. I know people can't help but drool over themselves when he's on tv, but I'd rather watch number 100090924924949 in the world play, before I watch him.
Also, I know he's making history and all that jazz, but is it really historical if no one is challenging him? I mean at least Sampras had Agassi to spar with, and to at least keep up with him. Federer doesn't really have that one person who can push him to his limit, but like I said, everyone else needs to step their games up.
He is amazing, hands down. But I'm never one to find predictability interesting for very long.

boring? cmon. if you've seen the incredible arsenal of shots he has up his sleeve, you'll eat your words. and he makes it all look so easy. it's a pleasure to watch him play cos he is just so classy. and there's this tendency to disparage his opponents due to his overwhelming dominance. but roddick, nadal, blake, gonzalez among others are really great players as well; it's just that federer is better than all of them by leaps and bounds.
