ALL of your question parts depend on YOUR definitions.
Some equipment IS big/heavy/pricey to ship; BUT where else would you sell it if you are the only one in your area that uses it?
Buyers should ALWAYS take into account the shipping costs in bidding.
I bought a car that said "local pickup" and then had it picked up by an auto transporter, because I lived 6 states away. With a little work I later resold it at 500% profit, INCLUDING the cost of having it picked up!!

I bought my 27" Mitsubishi TV for $56 on eBay from a guy who lives 20 miles away. He listed it as "For Local Pick Up Only", which is the proper way to list such items. There is a location entry at the top of the auction, right below the current price. If it is too far away for you to pick the thing up, and it is listed as "For Local Pick Up Only", then I would suggest you do not bid on the item. Only bad feelings and negative feedback will result. Some people DO ship large things they sell on eBay, but they use Motor Freight rather than UPS or the Post Office.

Many items on Ebay are local pickup only.I hate to say this but they charge you more on postage to make up for any loss on selling the item. When I sell, it's actual postage and no packing or handling fee.Next time you get something look at the postage on the corner. If you think it's unreasonable give them feedback telling them so.I wouldn,t give negative because they will do the same with you.Just say postage high in comment section.

Because you never know... SOMEBODY might buy them. I'm in California and I bought a 1950's dinette from somebody in Kansas. Even with the shipping (which was high) the price was better than any dinettes I could find in a retro store around here. It arrived in great condition and I love it!
