Mr Shirley Povich wrote for the Washington Post for over 70 years from the 1920's until his death in 1998. His work holds up even today.

His time on the job allowed him to compare folks like Babe Ruth & Mark Mc Gwire w authority as he watched both of them play.

The Post has some of his stuff available oin their website.

Now the Post has Michael Wilbon & Tony Kornheiser to name a few good writers.
