I've used turbotax basic for my federal return, and had good luck.

-It's easy to use

-it walks you through the process by asking you questions and having you fill in the answers or numbers

-it shows your refund or tax owed as a running number all the way through the process

-they guarantee that if you pay a penalty or interest because of an error, they'll pay the penalty and interest.

-There is also a feature that scans your return looking for potential audit triggers. I've never had any come up, but I imagine this would be things like large donations that are out of the ordinary, for example.

-if you use the same company's software next year, it'll automatically pick all the information it can from this year's file and drop it in where it needs it.

I'd say only get the basic version, not the deluxe. Where I live, the state return is fairly simple, and the city return is a snap. I do those on paper, and don't need the software. It's only the federal return that is complicated enough to make me use software to file a return.

If you Efile, and have a bank account to put the funds through electronically, and don't get audited, yes, you will get the refund sooner.

The first two you have a lot of control over.

Sadly the Infernal Revenoo Scam has the total control over the third.

and the fact that they owe YOU money instead of the other way round, puts you on the shorter list for an audit.

They work fine. At the end they will even tell you if your deductions fall in the normal range of most filers or if it looks like you're asking for an audit. E-file might get you a quicker refund, but you'll normally have to pay extra or at least buy the deluxe software package.

My dad did mine last year on Turbo Tax but I mailed it in. It took about a month to recieve it. Not too bad. It was a pretty hefty check.

Ive used TurboTax for 6 years. Its great......they walk you through everything and they do check for errors. Get it back in about 10 days if you use direct deposit. And if you fall in a certain income level (which I do) its free!!!!

Go to the IRS site and E-File..it's free and if you have direct deposit, you should get it back in no more than 14 days!

Good Luck!
