your friends are prejudiced against american cars because of old stereotypes. GET THE HHR!

BETTER THAN HONDA, BETTER THAN TOYOTA, CHEVY!

They are five star safety rated, get great fuel economy, and are well rated by JD Powers and Associates for initial quality. The natural frequency of the vehicle is 27 hertz which makes for a very long lived body structure. The Eco Tech engine produces 145 horsepower and the vehicle handles well. The HHR is very moderately priced and come with a Genuine GM 100,000 mile warranty.

What is not to love?

I bought one last year after I fell in love with it at the Detroit Auto Show. I bought the LT version but that really only gave me the slightly better engine, sunroof and a few other extras. It's only a 4 cyl which I don't really care for but I get anywhere from 20-25 mpg city. I once hit 33 on the expressway. The only big downfall for me is the size of the windshield. I'm 5'9 and I have a hard time seeing the traffic lights even when I'm behind the white line.

Sure, you just shouldn't use it on your Malibu since the overall diameter is too small which will change the gearing as well as the accuracy of your odometer and speedometer while also reducing your fuel economy. That and the smaller tires have less load carrying capacity due to their smaller air chamber, thus requiring you to increase the inflation pressure which will combined with the shorter sidewall ruin the ride. Other than that it is a great idea.

Your friends' thoughts are common, but dead wrong. American cars are just as reliable (sometimes more so) than their Japanese counterparts. J.D. Power long-term automotive reliability tests back this up, placing General Motors (Chevrolet) as some of the most reliable vehicles you can buy. There was a quality gap in the early and mid 90's, but U.S. automakers improved vastly, while some Japanese automakers' quality has suffered as they grew too quickly (mainly Toyota).

the new HHR is a very good car. I would not listen to your friends, they haven't had any problems with them yet and they are proving to be cool cars. Many companies have bought them for their company cars. I drove one with a manual transmission and it was really fast.
