Hi folks
I am looking to stay at Barbary Coast in Las Vegas. I have read lots of reviews and have chosen there because I can get it for $85/night (September) and it's excellent location. The only thing that bothers me is that there's no pool!!
Are any of the hotel pools on the strip open to the public? Do Barbary Coast stayers get access to a pool anywhere?
Thanks in advance.

You're going to like the Barbary Coast, it's a real gem. When we stayed there the guests were allowed to use the pool at the Gold Coast. The BC has a free shuttle that runs to the Gold Coast and Orleans.

Things change in LV, I would check to make sure you would have access. I stayed at the Orleans in December and the group was still being cooperative even though Barbary Coast was sold to Harrah's and Orleans and Gold Coast to someone else.

There are a couple of pools in LV that anyone can use because of the Nevada law which requires the hotel to allow anyone(over 21) to go where they have gambling. The Hard Rock and Tropicana have two of the best pools in LV, and they have swim up blackjack tables in their pool.

If they(security) say anything, just tell them you're going to play a little blackjack..

I am making the assumption that you have done some checking and that $85 rate at the BC is a real bargain. Because, if the pool is the "main" thing for you? The Flamingo is right in the same center strip cluster of hotels, usually has some pretty good rates and they have a great pool area.

this is my favorite site to check LV room rates

the Flamingo has a best rate guarantee, they will beat any online price you can find by 25%, you have to jump through a few hoops to get that rate, rules are on the Harrah's web site. The Flamingo is also a good hotel if you're a player. Marketing is pretty good about sending out room offers(comp/casino rate)

The Barbary Coast is a classic. It's cheap. The food is good. And the odds are better than at any of the neighboring establishments.

Folks who stay at the BC choose the place precisely because they don't think much of the Disneyland-Vegas atmosphere that predominates in "better" casinos like Mirage, Caesars, and the Venetian. They just want their shrimp cocktail and a smoky poker table.

Besides, the nicest places pay for the gaudy statues, actors, and live animals out of *your* pocket -- so the more opulent a casino, the more stingy the slots and house rules tend to be. Each casino sets its own rules, even if they're all owned by the same company.

As for the pool situation, you should ask to use the Flamingo's pool (both BC and Flamingos are owned by Harrahs, so theorethically, it should be no problem). Most of time they don't check for room keys. This is especially true when the pool is already crowded...you can usually just sneak in as somebody arrives/leaves.

I suggest that you forget the Barbary Coast and stay at one of the better hotels that have a pool. Would you really want to walk or ride a bus to/from another hotel in a wet bathing suit?

You can get rooms in other Strip hotels for under $100 a night almost all the time. I recommend the Monta Carlo, which has a nice pool, the MGM, and the Flamingo. I have stayed at all of these and they have good rooms also.

What you need to do is go to the web sites for these hotels and look at their rate calendar. Most will show the rates for each night for multiple months. Pick a hotel that has a good rate at the time you will be there.

Since they were recently bought by Harrah's Entertainment, you might get access to the Flamingo Pool next door since it is now a sister property. It is one of the greatest pools in town. Also some of the bigger hotels like Mandalay Bay, Caesars, Mirage have really elaborate pools and you can get in with a small admission if you are not staying there. Also Caesars falls under the Harrah's umbrella now, so you might want to inquire there first. Don't forget those pools I mentioned all have a topless areas too. ;)

$85 no bargain & with all the buses/shuttles location means nothing. Could cut that in half downtown or Sams Town, Gold Coast, etc. Least of the worries here is pool.

In general you need a room key to the hotel you are staying at in order to get into the pool. If you can somehow sneak in, i've never seen them being too concerned about going around checking room keys though, unless they see you sneaking in on a camera or something.

There are no pools on teh strip you can get into, unless you have the room key to that hotel.
