I had an abnormal pap and went back for a biopsy. They found out I have displasia which is basicaly a build up of precancerous cells. They are going to freez them off with liquid nitrogen and I was wondering if anyone else has had this done and how much pain is involved. I am not very tolerent of pain when I got the biopsy done I fainted so Im hoping the answer will be not much but I want to know what to expect and what all they do in the procedure.

I hope I can help, I used to help doctors do this sort of procedure, although I haven't had it myself. The setup for you will be pretty much like you are having a pap smear. The doctor will use a special applicator to apply the liquid nitrogen to the area they want to freeze. It only takes a few seconds to actually freeze the tissue, and then they let it thaw, and repeat that process a few times. As rule, it's a fairly painless procedure, although some ladies to have some cramping. The cervix itself doesn't have a lot of feeling( nobody could stand having a baby otherwise), so you shouldn't have a lot of pain during the procedue or afterwards. I'm not sure why you fainted during the biopsy, unless you were just so worried and upset, or frightened about it. The main complications after the procedure are from bleeding, and you may spot a little afterwards- so you will want to have a fresh pad or pantyliner to wear afterwards. The cervix will heal itself over the next few weeks. You doctor will be the best one to ask about when you can have sex or use a tampon again, and when he/she wants to repeat the smear to make sure they got it all. Most of the time it works first time out, and you will have repeat pap smears every six months for a few years before going back to the annual exam.
If you are really uptight about it all, talk with the doctor beforehand and see if he is willing to prescribe a mild sedative for you to take before the procedure is done. The cramping is mostly mild and will go away shortly after they are done. In some cases they can come and go for a day or so, and usually Ibuprophen and heat do wonders for them by calming the uterus. The procedure itself is pretty quick, usually around 30-45 minutes and you're done. I've know a lot of women who had it done in the mornings and returned to work after lunch, but that is certainly your call to make.
I'm sure the whole incident is not doing a lot for your peace of mind, certainly not with the "precancer" words attached. But keep in mind that you don't have cancer, that's what the procedure is trying to shortstop. By eliminating the cells which can cause trouble in future, there is a good chance you won't have any further trouble at all. The cryotherapy will not scar the cervix as much, and should you decide to have children in future, there won't be any problems to prevent a vaginal delivery. I hope this helps explain things for you so you don't feel so worried about it all, and I hope things go more smoothly for you than the biopsy did. If you can stay calm about it, I think it will. Good luck.

By freezing of the bad cells with the liquid nitrogen, -vs- surgical scraping the pain and discomfort associated with procedures in that very sensitive area, will be less. A Total pain free experience, is not a realistic goal, but good pain control is. For starters, have someone drive you. Your options for pain meds are limited if you are driving (nothing sedating, that includes benadryl, and any narcotic no matter how mild). Inform the MD doing the procedure of you problem and coordinate with him/her to show up early and get some meds on board and working BEFORE THE PROCEDURE.......(ps no sexual activity after wards until the doc says OK, then proceed slowly after wards until completely healed.....good luck/..........Riff

It burns a fair amount! I've had other things frozen off (warts and the like) and those were on my feet.... Never had it done for an STD. That WILL burn. I suggest you urinate before you go as you may involuntarily urinate while they do the procedure. Many women do. They will give you a pain reliever if you ask. Tell them you want NO PAIN and won't settle for less.
