I would like to know the origins of this, and why it is more than just a state. I live in Oregon. There is nothing more to our title than "State of Oregon"

California does this also, what does the addition of "Republic" mean???

the correct legal name for MA is the Commonwealth of MA, not People's Republic.

People's Republic of Massachusetts is a joke name applied by conservatives because the state is very liberal. It is a takeoff on the People's Republic of China- the implication is that Mass. liberals are communists at heart.

Cambridge, Mass is a college town that has an extremely liberal culture and is sometimes called the people's republic of Cambridge for the same reason.

There is one thing for sure ! IF the people do not pull together this nation WILL FALL! As far as the republic goes for the young ones, look up "Pledge of Allegiance", "Bellamy Salute", Adolf Hitler
A Democracy is the people for the people "NOT SNOBBISH"
A Republic is what our fathers fought to remove in Germany!
Do understand a Democrat is part of a Democracy!
A Republican is part of a Republic ! A military state ! Just like China !

The name came about as a political slam against the state to compare the state to the PRC. Ignore the name. This country needs fewer people bashing both political parties, and more people working together to bridge the gap between the nuts on both sides.

"People's Republic of Mass." Is an ironic expression of distaste for the aleged socialist leaning of politics in that state. It likens that state to communits nations which have assumed names like "People's Republic of China" .

This was used primarily prior to statehood of the state. Unfortunately it has nothing to do with how many Republicans live there...lol
