I have to say Led Zeppelin. There aren't too many bands out there that don't list Zeppelin as an influence.

There's no easy answer to this one. It would depend on the band and the genre of music. The Beatles were influential, but so was U2. Jeff Buckley was influential, but to a whole other group of people than say, Metallica. There are so many influential artists that you can not possible pick just ONE for all bands/artists.
Michael Jackson, Madonna, Janis Joplin, Chuck Berry, Etta James, Aretha Franklin. The list can go on and on.
