Firstly employers look for staff with competitive wages. If a fresh graduate and a person with 10 years experience is fighting for the same job, the employer will recruit the one with lower salary and better qualification.Unless the person is willing to lower his salary expectation near to the fresh graduate (Which is almost impossible), then he stand a chance.
You should try to look around and maybe think of changing career. If you are experience in phototaking, you can also look for jobs as a freelance photographer.

You are what they call overqualified, as a young college is to under experienced your fee would be to high and he would not qualified enough. That usually comes with lack of back round work. If you indeed for forty years did no other jobs u may as well scratch the big time Start in a lower position or different ones and build up a Working resume. You also have to"have a job to get a job" With this economy its a wonder anyone has a job good luck tho

While I commend you for searching for work at an older age when most of us hope to be able to retire, it can be challenging and often difficult.

Medical insurance is costly for us older folks, if the company offers it. And sometimes there is the issue of one's health, as we get older and well into our 40's. Most decent companies want to hire full-time employees who will produce and stay with the company until they retire. And when might that be for you?

Just keep sending your resume, and apply for positions on line as well.

Also, are you well versed in the new age of digital photography, even though you hold these degrees? Are they "old school" degrees dealing with the aspects of the use of film? This is important too. While I am not much for the new age of digital, because I still prefer film, it is what it is...and it's 2007.

Good luck with your job search.

There may be a job for you, you just need to keep looking, and maybe look for a different kind of job. Also, I would advise you to brush up on your English and writing skills...your question is full of grammatical mistakes.

because of the perceived notion that you may not be as trainable as a young fresh out of college graduate.

I agree with porkchop but will also say someone who has no experience will also work cheaper.
