They are referring to the number of cylinders the engine has. A V6 only has six while a V8 has eight. If you look at a engine from the front(when it is not in the car) it has a V shape. The cylinders are were your fuel and air mix, and combusts to force the pistons to move. Generally V6 have less power but better fuel economy and V8 have more power less fuel economy.

The difference between a V8 and a V6 are, a V8 has 8 cylinders and has more power than a V6. The V6 has only 6 cylinders and has less power than the V8.

a v8 has 2 more spark plug then a v6 and a v8 has more power.so if your looking for more power,get a v8,but a v6 will do what you want and easier on gas.i have a olds with a v6 and its got all the power i need and its easy on gas too.
