American pride themselves with the democratic system of governance along with freedom of speech, high priority for human rights, a free market economy, as a way of life. Some Americans hold their system as THE system for other countries to follow... Do you think that other countries should adopt their system without question? Are there better models out there that other countries should think about?

For info, I am not an American. I seek the views of Americans and non-American alike. Thank you.

Thank you for all the answers. I am of the view that the different countries are in different stages of development and cannot follow the American way of life as they like to be. Hence they should be allowed to fine tuned their system and work towards democracy. Personal freedom must be complemented with a sense of responsibility. China, for example, has made vast progress in the past twenty years or so. They should be allowed to find their way towards a democratic and open society. For the record, I am from Singapore.

I think it could have been at least one of the best, but I think that it has been perverted by greed, among other things. Our country is not actually supposed to be a democracy, that is a misnomer. It is actually supposed to be a republic. I definitely don't think capitalism is not even close to the best system, because capitalism actually only benefits a minority. But, those that it benefits, naturally, love it. There are definitely better models that I have read about in certain books, and they are awesome, and I don't think they have been tried yet, on this planet.
Unfortunately, I think that our society as a whole (over the entire world) would have to be more spiritually evolved and enlightened, for these models to really work the way they are supposed to.

I think Switzerland would be better. They have the most direct democracy. They have a process where citizens can challenge bad laws by collecting 100,000 petition votes. Then the law is placed on a ballot to be voted on by the people. Also there are 4 major parties versus the 2 major parties we have.

I think these would help prevent some of the corporate/lobbyist influences that have hurt the U.S. like the energy companies like Enron helping the Vice President to write the energy policies of our country for example. I think the more input by regular people and the less corporation/lobbyist input the better the government is.

this is a good one i am an american i like living here for the most part i am a little concerned ( okay i am petrifed) right now because we are really being ripped apart because of this iraq occupation i for one am agnist ( an evil protester considered by some) this war i am dissapointed continuly by our current president and have no faith what so ever in him any more but sooner rather than later hes outta here and the world will hear us rejoice this is one of the many perks i enjoy here i like to be able to say i think bush is stupid as a log or i wanna spit on him etc the only thing you need to watch for is threats but at least you can express your outrage with out having to worry about getting run over by a tank or gunned down (except for kent state but that was a different time) so yeah i do like my freedom but i think we should butt out of other countries unless they ask for assistance or there are unhumanitarion unjustice's ,genocides, etc that the un are also involved in have you ever heard the saying "whats good for the goose is not for the gander" i really don't think that we should have any say in how other country's govern their people and unless they ask for change we should live and let live. and trust me i know america isn't the ideal society it has it's flaws but they are worth all the freedoms we have and the ones we'll get back after "the decider" scumbag worst president ever is out of office any way thats how i feel about this hope it helps bye

If you're a neo-con.
Ahem...no, not at all. It is the best government for America to follow. You cannot instill the same political system in two countries that are naturally very different, re: culture, civilization, religion, morals/ethics.
I'm not even sure the current political system is best for America anymore.

the way our system was designed, i think is the best in the world. however Americans and their blind compliance to government has allowed the bureaucrats to manipulate our political environment beyond boundaries of our own constitution. just FYI, we are a democratic republic, not a true democracy. real democracy is mob rule. not good.

People should be allowed to form their own political system. I think people of other countries should have the right to choose their system of government instead being forced to choose democracy by gunpoint.

IF the U.S. democracy would really be a "government for the people by the people" instead of government by transnational corporations for transnational corporations, it might be good for other countries, too.

Unfortunately it isn't!

Lets just mind our own business. But when other nations interfere in our trade (of legitimate commodities) we will destroy that nation swiftly.
We will do what is good for us and we will help others if it is in our interests to do so. Hay the French do this and know says anything so lets go with it. HAHAHA
