I worked at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival for 3 years. This past December, I moved to Oregon so that my husband and I could try something new. In October, before fest was over, my supervisor told me that if I came back next year, I would have the assistant supervisor position. Well, everyone is freaking out that I moved and are trying to replace me, so should I say I'll go, or should I stay and let them figure it out? I already said I would go and I love fest, it would look great on my resume, we are financially secure enough that I could make the month a half trip only working weekends and a couple days a week. Please help! Everyone tells me to follow my heart, to do what I love, except for two people, my old supervisor and my mom. They both say that I should finish my degree. Degree would be better in the long run, but the supervisor position will look great on the resume....Help me please!

My take is since Ren faire is September and October, can you work on finishing your degree in the other months of the year? You should be able to do the full Spring and Summer session at whatever University/College you are attending and then have employment experience instead of your fall semister at college. You end up with the best of both worlds.

And if you love Ren Faires, don't forget to take a look at the Oregon County Fair in July outside Eugene, Oregon. It's not the same as a long running Ren Faire, but people tend to love both of them.

What does your husband think of this?

You mention that you are studying to get your degree, do you have that much longer to finish it? Is the position in MN a year long position or just a seasonal one? If being involved in a Renaissance Festival is your goal, how about the Shrewsbury festival here in Oregon.

My suggestion for you would be to finish your schooling, volunteer at the local festival and make a life change once you are certain about your desired outcome.

And in my experience - somehow Mom does have great intuition.
Best of luck to you!
