Yes, that is what we did when my son was an infant. (Socks) When you look back at pictures a few months from now you will laugh.

They also have nightgowns that have "mittens" at the end of each arm to prevent scratching. I know Carters's has some for newborns. The "mits" they sell in stores like Target (I've seen Gerber brand) seemed to always fall off and were not worth the money.

Try clipping her nails as she sleeps too.

Good luck!

My son did the same thing, he used to scratch his forehead so much that he would bleed. I tried the gloves but even as a little baby he would pull these off. I was going to use the socks but I like the soft cotton gloves better for his hands as it was summer at that time. What I had to do was actually sew gloves onto his sleepers which seemed to do the trick. Don't worry this will pass, in fact I didn't even remember about this until reading your question right now.

You should cut her finger nails when you can. I do my daughters (3 months) when she is sleeping. That way, she doesn't scratch herself up. When I feed my daughter, I let her hold my finger so her hands are busy (mine is bottle fed so I can do that).

If yours scratches at night, you can get sleepers and nighties that have little flaps on the hands...they can be an open sleeve or a closed one. I wouldn't recommend putting socks or anything that can come off on her hands...I was always worried that she would put it in her mouth and it would come off...

Hope this helps!

First off, clip her nails (if you haven't done so already).

You could use socks but what I did was buy little handmits. Wal-mart (and I am sure other department stores) has them and they are wonderful.

The gowns are also good because they come with built in handmits.

Another idea (for sleeping) is to buy a swaddling blanket. Mine velcros together so that he is bundled up and his hands aren't flailing around everywhere.

Yep! I always found that the socks stay on much better than the baby mittens. Remember - there aren't many rules (besides common sense) that you have to folow once you're in the mommy club. Use whatever works for you, as long as it's safe!

after you trim her nails, take an emory board to soften the edges, they have little mittens just for this, or socks will have the same result of added protection. Blessings on your new arrival!

yes, definitely. they make little mittens you can use, but socks work just the same! some outfits also have cuffs that can be folded over the hands.

Yep. they even make baby mitts specifically for that.

kep her nails short as well - they grow fast on infans.

As she gains more control over her limbs she'll stop scratching herself.
