I understand the #16 is for heavy material (such as denim). What is the #100 for and where do I find it on the package of needles? Also..do I have to know a certain kind/type needles that a "Brother Sewing Machine" uses? Does the needle package state which machines it can be used on?

See here for what the 100 and other needle numbers on the packages mean and why that may be important, depending on what type material used and what stitches/functions used:

See the part on the page about choosing the needle for the machine, based on fabric weight and type.

Most packages of needles, if made by the same maker as your sewing machine, will state what machines or models they fit; other generic brands may or may not name them by name.

There is a slight difference in both quality and price with the generics; if you are working on fine, heirloom sewing projects or are using ultra expensive or sheer fabrics, buy the best needles you can afford.

I have a Brother Sewing Machine and I bought my package of size 16 needles at Walmart. I don't remember the package listing Brother on it. Most needles are interchangeable where they can be used on different machines. I never did know what the #100 meant. I just buy size 16 needles and they work.

dont know what the 100 stands for but most sewing machine needles are interchangable and most of the time mention what machines they will work on. i have a singer and never bother with the 100 # just buy a package of assorted sized needles. making sure that the flat part that inserts on the machine and the eye part is in the same position as the one you have now. some are right threaded /front threaded /left threaded. you can also call customer service at brother.

Most machines use the same needles. For denim you will want the heavier needle because it is such a heavy fabric to sew it will usually snap the smaller needles.
Go to your local sewing store and find a knowledgeble sales person there. Explain to them what you are doing and they will set you up with what you need.

I am strongly attracted to you. You "seam" to be a woman who could keep me in "stitches" with a great sense of humor. A real joke "machine"! If a guy complimented you enough on this site, would you be attracted to "hem"? Finding a woman like you would be like finding a "needle" in a haystack, what with all your charming qualities and all. I could tell you that I'm tall, dark and handsome, but that would be a "fabric"ation. You might think of me as some kind of sex "thimble", but that would be misleading. So, I won't lie. I'm just your husband who loves you very much and I'm proud to say I am very happily married to you! M-w-w-w-w-a-a-a-h!!! If you don't pick mine as the "best answer" I'll be getting the divorce papers ready tomorrow. Hardy har har. Just kidding! You must pick someone else, I know. You always do the right thing which is why I love you "sew". It's just something that's been passed down to you in your "jeans" from your wonderful parents, who I also love dearly.

Good luck, my love!
