If I can type what I see on the screen how does this prevent a hacker from seeing and typing also. It is very annoying to send an email to someone I've been sending email to for a while, to stop and type in the cryptic code thing at the end in order to send the message. It's a big fat waste of time.

The code is used to make sure that an actual person is sending the e-mail rather than an automated "bot" as used by most all e-mail hackers.

They don't personally use your e-mail to send spam ... they use an automated program. The program is prevented from working because it cannot read the scrambled code on the screen.... only you can.

as far as i understand it, the spam senders just hit sent and have like a method where they don't really do any of the work and their computer is programed to do the job for them. A computer cannot see the cryptic code and so it wont type the right one. This doesn't really prevent hackers, just spam senders.

It's called a CAPTCHA. The intent is to determine if you are in fact a human there and not a computer.
