the higher the number the harder it is to use... if u r a beginner start out off with a 2 1/2 or 3, also i recommend a rico reed

beginners shud start out with rico or rico royals. after u get to around size 3 reeds, i think vandorens are good reeds to use. Im currently using size 3 reeds vandoren, and im doing pretty well in the band, so i guess they are pretty useful.

3 1/2.. if that was what you meant. but it depends on which one is best to play with (i think)
