Helpful:
1. Know what diseases or conditions run in your family, so you could try to avoid activities that might aggravate them. Example: family history of high cholesterol --> watch your diet and the warning signs of high cholesterol.
2. Make informed decisions about having children.

Not helpful:
1. Knowing about certain family diseases may make you worry unnecessarily.
2. Knowing your entire background may compel you to give information to employers or insurance companies that could keep you from getting hired or insured.

Well if you know your background, it would help you so you can look out for diseases like color blindness, high blood pressure, diabetes, etc. You can also calulate your chances of having children with these diseases if your mate knows their background.

It wouldn't be a good thing though if insurance agencies got a hold of this info because they could charge you extra if they know you are more likely to get diabetes, for example. This raises an ethical question that wouldn't support everyone having their DNA mapped.

knowing my genetic background I gotta say I´m lucky I am still alive and kinda sane... but I mean if you had tendency to _name a disease_ you wouldn´t think of it unless you start getting symptoms and doctors won´t treat you until you get tested anyway.
On the other side it is a funnie "pull together of data" but to see it as a pedegree sounds kinda racist dude

Well Knowledge is hardly ever bad. Knowing the pedigree from everyone up your family tree could help you trace genetic related illnesses, such as disposition to cancer, Alzheimers, Greens weakness, or other genetic diseases

Be interesting to find out but not paying for it. No web site can ever tell me anything that matters anyway because I've already decided who I am.
