i recomend you to stay out of vista for a bit, stay with xp or whatever you have right now, i was thinking about the same thing an a friend of mine that works with computers and programing told me that "stay out for a while" is like internet explorer 7, i downloaded it and i should never done it, to much problems, and i think vista is coming the same way, with problems in the begining.

I would get a laptop with Windows XP and a free upgrade to Vista. So I can upgrade to vista in the future, or continue to use windows xp if I don't like the vista.

I attended a vista preview seminar last week, there isn't anything impress me, other than the fancy graphical view!

A lot depends on what you'll be doing with your laptop. Vista is probably optimized for multimedia so if you'll be working with video, pictures, music, etc., you'll probably have no problem with it. If you tend to use a lot of game software, it's quite possible that some games will have a problem with Vista until either Vista or the software is optimized for it.

I'm a gamer, so I wouldn't buy a computer with Vista until it's proven itself.

Ok i would say NO , because it new Operating System and belive me what Microsoft puts out as "new" its not worth buying it for next 2 years.... Remember xp , when it first came out ? 300 paches have been deployed to people, so take some laptop with xp but compatible with vista! wait 2 y and then buy vista :)

If you can get a notebook with an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 2GB of RAM and a video adapter with at least 64MB (although 128MB is recommended), then Windows Vista is an option. Otherwise I'd just stay with Windows XP.

No because its harder to downgrade than upgrade. Vista will not be compatible with everything. Once the bugs and things are worked out, you can always upgrade later, you just will have to pay to upgrade.

yes. if you use the old software, then you will fall behind. honestly, im not all that excited about vista, it takes more resources than xp. but im going to get it so i know how to use it when i need to know how.

this is more important for me being a technician.

vista still got some weaknesses, better wait for a while, but still xp is better as it uses less resources compared to vista...
