Mercedes 79 300sdturbodiesel, does not want to start.I was told that the alternator has a relay or box that send the message to the fuel pump, I put a new alternator and still won't start. If the glow plugs are ok, what else could be the problem? I hope to get an anwer. Thanks. It'll start if I spray ether in throtle.

Are you sure the glow plugs are good? I cant think of anything else. There is a glow plug relay that might be bad. Be care full with the ether

That is a very fine auto and should be worth spending some money if it needs repairs.
I suggest you not use any more ether. It could do serious damage to the engine. Start with the fuel filter. It might be clogged. Replace it.
Next would be adding fuel to the tank to be certain the guage is not stuck. That happened to a friend of mine. He was out of fuel but didn't know it because the guage showed half a tank.
After that comes some heavy stuff that will need to go to a shop.

good luck.

Most likely you have a fuel problem. Try changing the filter, If that doesn't work loosen one of the lines and crank it to see if you have fuel pressure. If not you probably need a new pump. Very expensive.

if you havent had an explosion with the ether yet then i would say the glow plugs are not working.you need to check the circuit thru each seperatly with the wires disconnected using an ohm meter.check fuel filters as well as pump timing
