Well I can tell you that maybe twice a year we would go to A&W for a hamburger, soda, and fries. Other than that we ate at home everynight. Soda was in smaller bottles orig 8 ounces then 12 oz. bottles, and maybe we would have one once a month (if that) a trip to the ice cream parlour. Meals were meat, potatoes, and usually canned vegetables, with dessert a normal part of the meal. I never had lunch at school until I was in grade 9, and we always had breakfast.(cereal and toast). Potato chips, popcorn, and peanuts were about the only snack foods (no flavours only plain, or buttered), chocolate bars were available but an occasional treat. Hope that helps

Like the one guy stated, extra home-cooked meals, much less rapid meals amd ppl weren't sitting in front of the tv ( no cable!) or the pc. Men and women acquired out more and had been extra athletic. They rollerskated, went dancing, to the mall, played football, ect. In brief, they weren't sofa-potatoes! They ate more meat/potatoes meals with salads, and two/three veggies at a meal, alternatively than meat/potatoes alot. There weren't as many food preservatives as there are now, nor were they used as a lot.

I was a teen in the 50's and we use to go to a drive in restaurant and order a coke, french fries and a hamburger. Some times we would get a hot dog.

There was no McDonald's back then -
White Castle was about the best one could do - and lots of teens hung out in the corner drug stores (soda fountain counter). We ate lots of french fries, and greasy burgers, and drank lots of sodas (Nehi, Orange Crush, Coca Cola).
Back with more info - memory circuits don't function as quickly as they used to. . .
Most of us ate dinners at home . . . on a schedule . . . not on the run, like today. Weekends usually included a large (after church) lunch, where other 'distant' family would visit and share the meal.
We ate lots of pot roast, salad greens, meatloaf, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, fresh fruits . . . and drank lots of sodas and iced tea.

When I was there, it was coke, hamburger and fries, and plenty of pizza usually cheese or cheese and sausage. Cigarettes were 25 cents a pack.
