Is the best explanation of infant feeding.
And remember solid food is for fun and learning NOT to replace breastmilk or formula.

If you want a book, the best one I found is called Super Baby Food. I got it on Amazon.com a couple years ago for around $7 or so. You could also probably find it on eBay, or just check it out from a library. It has so many great ideas for foods, for infants through toddlers, and lots of other stuff like recipies, crafts, health information... really a great resource. I used it with my first child, and then it got passed around between all my friends as they had babies too. The best first foods for my baby - at 6 months - were sweet potatoes, avacados, and bananas. He also had rice cereal, but did not like it as much. whatever you end up doing, just be sure to only introduce one new food a week so you can look out for any food allergies. good luck!

I make my own. I buy canned peaches, pears, applesauce. Making sure that there's no extra sugar in them. I add it to a mixture of avacado, cereal, and boiled chicken or beef.
Puree it all together. Wah-lah. The ped. said that avacados are really good for babies, all the right calories, essential fatty acids, fiber, etc.

pretty much you use formula still. Whole milk is introduced at 10 months because it is pretty hard to digest. There is no menu.. you start out with one food at a time.. puree. Introduce only one food every 4-6 days in case of allergies.. you can buy or grind your own... also teething biscuts and digestive cookies are good to suck on.. as you want thicker foods, mash up a banana, and give finger food such as cheerios and such
