The three-toed sloth is the slowest moving land mammal. On the ground, the sloth moves at an average speed of 0.048 m/s, considerably slower than the giant tortoise, which walks at 0.083 m/s. After 12 minutes of walking, how much further would the tortoise have gone relative to the sloth?

This is a very easy problem :-)
First, let's write t = 12 min = 720 s.
The sloth moves s = 0.048 m/s x 720 s = 34.56 m, while the tortoise moves 0.083 m/s x 720 s = 59.76 m. So, the tortoise would've gone 59.76 m - 34.56 m = 25.2 m further.

The difference in velocity is:
|--: (0.083-0.048) m/s = 0.035 m/s

The amount of time is:
|--: 12 min * 60 sec/min = 720 sec

Therefore the discrepancy is
|--: 0.035 m/s * 720 s = 25.2 m
