i believe they came out around the time the Jordan 12's came out

Classic shoes. Those were among the first of the Brand Jordan line. Right now, eBay, niketalk.com, or instyleshoes.com are your best bets for a new pair. Be prepared, because you could easily pay $200+ to get those. There aren't any plans by Brand Jordan to retro them as of yet, but that'll likely change.
