James Bond's real name is James Bond. His number is 007, with "00" indicating that he is one of the elite agents in the British Secret Service who have a "license to kill," which is more of an authorization to kill.
It has been well-established that Fleming's inspiration for Bond's name was from the ornithologist James Bond, whose book, "Birds of the West Indies," Fleming had at his Goldeneye vacation estate in Jamaica. Fleming thought the name was particularly dull, and that's why he liked it. (Sorry, people, but Wikipedia is not a reliable source, as it can be edited and written by anybody, with no fact-checks done before information is posted.)
According to Philip Gurin, author of "The James Bond Trivia Quiz Book," Bond creator Ian Fleming got the idea for the "00" prefix from his days in British Naval intelligence. At the time, Whitehall used the "00" prefix to denote classified material.
However, according to Andrew Lycett in his Fleming biography, "Ian Fleming: The Man Behind James Bond," Fleming got the inspiration for "007" from the German diplomatic code "0070," used by the Germans to send a telegram to Mexico's diplomat in Washington in World War I.
The Zimmerman Telegram, as it is known, was an encrypted message seeking Mexico's support in the war, with Germany promising to help Mexico regain land had Mexico lost to the United States over the years.
The British intercepted the message and decrypted it, and the United States, until then a neutral bystander in the war, decided to get involved.

I don't think that the anonymity of his name is so much as important as what he does. He doesn't go around telling people that he's a counter-agent and a professional assassin. The name only means something to us because we are familiar with the character. The other characters in the movie are not necessarily aware of Bond's reputation and history. By the way, he works for the British Secret Intelligence Service, or MI6

It has been suggested that the name 'James Bond' originated in Toronto, Ontario, when British Naval Intelligence Commander Ian Fleming was invited by Sir William Stephenson (codename 'Intrepid'), to participate in the SOE subversive warfare training Syllabus at STS-103. Fleming had a private residence in Avenue Road, Toronto, Canada, because the training camp barracks was full. On Avenue Road, there was the St. James-Bond Church (Toronto), its address was 1066 Avenue Road, and the military building address was 1107 Avenue Road (Double ones 0 and 7, thus number 007). The building does not exist, but in its place is Marshall McLuhan Catholic Secondary School — erected by Bondfield Construction in 2001.
