plaques on an agar plate are the result of cell lysis, or cells bursting open. confluent lysis would be if more than one cell lysed close together so that you couldn't tell where the edges of each were. in other words, the plaques overlap.

Nobody that anyone would care about, but I do have an ancestor who signed the Declaration of Independence. I like Edgar Allan Poe. I visited his home in Philadelphia a few years ago. It was spooky.
