It is a relationship with more than one partner I beleive. Kind of like polygamy. A man and two women, all living together as a family or a a woman and two men, for example.

Polyamory is when you love more than one person at a time (in an intimate way) and that everyone involved is aware of and accepting of the multiple intimacy relationships. It has nothing to do with marriage at all. It has become increasingly popular with the younger generations.

"Polyamory is a descriptive term (defined by contrast with monogamy) for the practice of being open to more than one loving, intimate relationship at a time, with full knowledge and consent by everyone involved. People who identify as polyamorous thus reject the view that sexual and relational exclusivity are always necessary for long-term loving relationships. The term is sometimes abbreviated to poly, especially as a form of self-description, and is sometimes described as consensual non-monogamy."

The word "polyamory" is based on the Greek and Latin for "many loves." A polyamorous relationship is a romantic relationship that involves more than two people.

Do you mean "palimony"? It means alimony for someone who wasn't formally married to the other person. It was coined during the Lee Marvin- Michelle... I forget her last name. They lived together for years, and when they split, she sued for alimony, arguing that she had been a wife in all but name. It couldn't be alimony-- no marriage-- and since the press (then at least) would refer to a Significant Other as a "friend", some wag decided it could be PALamony.

If you mean Pologamy, then that's one many (or woman) who has more than one wife or husband at the same time. (Bigamy is the charge if someone marries someone else without divorcing or being widowed from the first spouse.)

HTH!

Well since everyone is throwing links around, I will too.

Polyamory is the practice of non-monogamy. Meaning "In general, non-monogamy means having the freedom to be sexually and/or emotionally involved with more than one person. "

Polyamory is a descriptive term (defined by contrast with monogamy) for the practice of being open to more than one loving, intimate relationship at a time, with full knowledge and consent by everyone involved. People who identify as polyamorous thus reject the view that sexual and relational exclusivity are always necessary for long-term loving relationships. The term is sometimes abbreviated to poly, especially as a form of self-description, and is sometimes described as consensual non-monogamy. It is distinct from polygamy, being rooted in such concepts as choice and individuality; in practice the two ideas have little or no overlap[citation needed]. Because of its fluid nature, polyamory is not clearly defined: there is no general agreement on its exact boundaries.

People who consider themselves open to or emotionally suited for a poly lifestyle may at times be single, or in monogamous relationships, or involved with more than one long term or loving relationship; as a result, polyamory is usually taken as a description of a lifestyle or relational choice and philosophy, rather than of individuals' actual relationship status at a given moment. Such people may identify as polyamorous, or may characterize themselves by an alternative viewpoint, their lack of desire or need for monogamy.

Polyamorous relationships are of necessity highly varied and individualized. However, as an ideal, they are built upon values of trust, loyalty, negotiation, and compersion, as well as rejection of jealousy, possessiveness, and restrictive cultural standards. Such relationships are often expected to be more fluid and changeable than the traditional 'dating and marriage' model of long-term relationships, and may not have preconceptions as to duration.

There is little scientific research into the durability of polyamorous relationships. However, such research as exists suggests that, provided both partners are emotionally capable of the requisite outlook, such relationships are as durable as traditional monogamous partnerships. In many societies where the social norm is a single partner, however, there is still significant discomfort with, and distrust of, consensual non-monogamous relationships in general.
