Maybe You mean "rift"? That would be the so called "Boer War" where Dutch Afrikanners resisted British rule from 1899-1903. The german empire supported the Afrikanners.

That is "rift,"? I think rather the war between the British Empire on the one side and The Orange Free State and The Transvaal on the other, 1898-1902. Hardly fair, two against one.
