I know we were once on the gold standard. What has happened to all the gold and how much was there then and now?

Here's a link to the Treasury Department about the Fort Knox Bullion Depository. The U.S. Mint link tells how much is there now (notice the "book value" is around $42 per ounce, nice profit in today's prices, eh?).

From what i Understand There is no gold In Fort Knox. We run on a system that only involves credit. $ that stand for credit not dollar. The USA has a huge deficit. For years now. If we had gold in Fort Knox we would not be in dept. I hope i answered you question.

The gold still remains in the vaults of Ft. Knox. The amount of gold is not reported.
