I gave all of my kids rice in their bottles from day one. All of my kids had reflux and I even started giving it to my son right in the hospital, per the doctors. It is done routinely for babies with reflux and it is hypocritical to say it is okay for a baby with reflux but not for any other baby. My sister used Enfamil AR for her kids because they were big babies and needed something more filling. I could not use Enfamil AR, at least not with my son, because it tends to be a little thicker and he did not like it. It is easier since you don't have to add the rice to it but it is harder to shake up because like I said it tends to be a little more thicker. I would not rely on what a WIC nutritionist tells you. They are not doctor's and I have been misinformed by them in the past. LAZY parents do not put rice in the bottles to make babies sleep longer, honey my kids have reflux and putting rice in the bottle helps it to stick to the ribs lessening the amount of reflux that occurs. I've worked in the medical field for 17 years and have never seen anything like I've seen mentioned when it comes to these postings. For God sakes there are doctors and surgeons in the NICU at the hospital that use it on our preemies and send the parents home with instructions on doing so.

All doctors will say not to give your baby solids until around 3-months or older and not to give cereal until around 4 months or older. I had in-laws telling me about sticking cereal in my sons bottle to make him sleep through the night, and I tried it. Did not work. He hated it. I just had to up the amount of formula I was feeding him because my breastmilk wasn't doing it. They don't want you to stick cereal in the bottle because it makes the baby suck harder on the nipple and can cause ear infections and such. Plus, there's the whole allergy-thing. I agree with the doctors on that part. Just try upping the amount of milk she's getting, and that will probably work. Good luck and congratulations!

My daughter went through somthing similar, where she was acting like she needed more and more (but was just eating more and more often, not taking more at every feeding). Eventually this corrected itself and she evened out to taking more in, less often. My doctor encouraged me to start giving her cereal at 4 months, but not in a bottle. (Mix it to the consistency of adult applesauce and feed it with a spoon.) She is now 5 months and I haven't fed her cereal yet- she is doing great with breastmilk alone. It took a while for us to get the scheduling straight, but I do remember her getting a little fussier around 1 and 2 months.

i actually just found out from a nutritionist the other day, you start them between 4 and 6 months first rice cereal then barley then oatmeal...they say to start this way because of potential allergies....if you start too earl it can mess with their digestive system...i got yelled at for putting it in my daughters bottlem and i was told its an old wives tale that it will help them sleep through the night
i also heard if you start them too early it can lead to obesity later on in life....i would just give her more formula or breast milk

They always don't recommend until at least 4 months, but when they act like they are still starving I believe their ready it was probably around 6 weeks to 8 weeks old when I started giving mine a little at night before bed. Just give just a pinch until you know it will not upset their tummys. I have 3 and they all did great with it. They tend to sleep better at night.

cereal is 4 months according to WIC Nutritionist. However i was told by my son's pediatrician you can introduce it at 3 months if the baby isn't getting full of milk and is within 2 pounds of doubling his/her birth weight. YOU SHOULD NEVER GIVE CEREAL IN A BOTTLE. it causes obesity and it gives the baby digestive problems. lazy parents put cereal in their babies bottle to make the baby sleep longer. i breastfeed my son and i introduced solids at 4 months he should be able to sit with support before you give him any solids and remember give it to him off a spoon never in his bottle

I've heard it's not good to put cereal in a bottle...but I can't remember why. BUT you shouldn't start cereal until 4 months, anyway... their little tummies aren't ready for it yet.

the american acadamy of pediatrics recomends 6 months. Breast milk alone should be fine. There is really no need to be giving her formula. She is growing nicly. 6 oz is a lot for her.
