39 years old? Wow. I am 54. I guess I am SO OLD that I am farting dust!! My son has an ipod, and I know how to use it. But I do not like it. I prefer the cd in the car stereo better.

Remember, you inherited your parents genes so they're
undoubtedly at least as smart as you think you are
and if you think they won't know how to operate something
as simple as an ipod, ask yourself this question, would you
know how to raise a family, support them with a profession
that would give them all the advantages in life, be there for
them through their traumas, teach them how to walk and
and make good choices for them, help them with their
homework and metaphorically wipe their behinds until
they were up and running on their own? I'm older than
your parents and just got an ipod, p.c. and Tivo and learned
it all in two weeks while running a full time business. Give
them a break...get them the ipod...I'm sure they'll be rockin'
to what your listening to and not Lawrence Welk. It takes
every generation a while to catch up with the younger one
as you'll find out but doesn't inhibit their ability to do so...oh,
by the way, if you think 39 is old you have a big shock coming.

39 isn't old... and they will probably know how what an ipod is and figure out how to use it. I don't know them personally, so I can't say if they would use one... but that might be a gift to buy a single person, not two that would have to share it.

No, at 39 you should be looking into a rest home for them, as they are obviously of no further use to society. They wouldn't understand anything more advanced than an abacus. Forget anything electrical, let alone electronic. Digital is an unknown term to fossils like them. Get them some drool bibs.

Well considering that I'm 53 (considerably OLDER than your parents ) and I have BOTH an mp3 player and an I pod as well as a doc for my I pod your ASSumption that they wouldn't know what it is only presents your lack of intelligence to it's fullest. (As "Red" on that 70s show would say...) Don't be a Dumbass DUMBASS
(I'd really hate to tell you that I infact built my own computer system...amazing what even a LITTLE intelligence can do isn't it...and you don't even have a little...)

As one of the "old folks" I can tell you that Ipods are not beyond the understanding of your parents. Don't forget, it was our generation that created the internet. Now where did I put my dentures and rocking chair? Hmmmm.

If you think they have a need for one. Show them how to use it if they do not know. If they really have a need then they will appeciate it. Do they run or have a job where they can listen to it at work? A lot of people at work have them to listen to but I can not since I have to wear a two way radio at work.

You are in luck. Most people who are as "old" as your parents are, are pretty adapt to technology. Hell, we were the first to use it. I'd say the cut off would be more like the 60's. So the answer is yes....they'll figure it out. They will also kill you for calling them 'old'.
