Bullying is a form of harassment. Harassment is illegal - it has harsh laws against it, and results in fines, community service or even jail time for minors. Schools and teachers are the ones who need to be trained to deal with bullying better; it is usually the ignorance of the responsible staff that is at fault. If there should be new laws for anything, they should be HARSHER laws that force teachers to confront and punish and even report it if it is a very big problem that prevents other kids form having normal lives.

Bullying is a problem most of us have dealt with at some point... on one hand (ok, this is the mom in me speaking) I say of course it should be. But at the same time, most children survive typical bullying without any long term problems... so doesn't it make us stronger in the long run?
I think it should be broken down a little more. Some name calling and teasing is one thing, it happens daily. But one kid or a group of kids making life a living he11 for another child goes beyond bullying - it's harassment. Physical bullying is against the law - it's considered assault in most cases, as it should be.
I think it's just one more way to make life TOO easy for our kids. We can't protect them from everything forever, much as we'd like to.

Your question makes no sense. If you were really bullied for a long time, why would you not want it to be against the law. Bullies need to the punished.

So long as you are in school or a minor, bullying shoud be treated as an assult. Those big bad bullies need to be put in thier place ie, a detention center or better, do some time. Have you ever tried to retaliate??? Perhaps they are just tested you to see if you react in a bold way.

bullying might not should be against the law but the bully should learn that such behaviour will not be tolerated by society as a whole and the parents play a large role in that as they are the ones that either encourage or discourage such behaviour

It should not be against the law because who gets to decide what is 'bullying' and what is not???

More laws are never the answer to ANYTHING.

it is against the law. it's called harassment, it definitely is a crime, and should be, just like in edmonton.

within reason i actually think bullying is fine... before i get pelted with tomotoes here me out... we can't nurture and baby out children every step of the way.. it's just a fact of life, it's been around since the beginning of time... bullying serves it purpose though, it does toughen up most kids and they do learn from it... most kids will strive not to be bullied down the road again, and will better themselves to see that it doesn't happen... i.e - working out, playing competitve sports, etc etc...
