you cn drive a car short distances without any damage to the engine. However if the car over heats the engine can be harmed. Also most new cars will not show overheating on the guage or light if the water level is low. so make sure that you check you water before driving it.

It could be that your thermostat is sticking . Before you drive it to the shop , make sure that there is coolant in your radiator . If your car is leaking water at the water pump , then that is your problem . If it is not leaking at the water pump , it's either your thermostat or you are very low on radiator coolant . Turn your heat on full blast . It will sometimes open your thermostat , which will keep your engine from overheating while you drive it to the shop . Good luck .

ur water pump is probably shot, or you have a bad radiator or coolant leak and guranteed since they are working on that they'll suggest to have your timing belt changed.

ALtenator belt (Serpentine belts) should be an easy fix but doesnt get effected by overhetaing. My car overheats due to a bad radiator and coolant leak. Don't push your car to the limit by going too fast, the slower you go the less it overhetas and have that looked at when you get to that shop, 2 min isnt enough to overheat if you just start your car up.

If it is overheating quickly check to see if there is any water in the cooling system. If not make sure you add water. You definitely do not want a blown head gasket or warped piston heads. If you are in doubt whether it can be driven, have it towed. The $60 will be worth it rather than paying $800-$1,200 for a rebuilt engine.

I wouldn't run it without the water pump belt, you're going to overheat and damage head, it doesn't take much.

it doesnt nessesary means its the water pump.it could be the thermostat.but if the water pump is bad then a couple of miles shouldnt hurt nothing,as long as you take it easy.

probably not your water pump. more likely the thermostat. but 2 miles, u should be ok. if it starts getting too hot, pull over and let it cool
