While I know of no book specifically for FF characters, I do know of a wonderful line of books known as How to Draw.... Among these books is one known as How to Draw Manga, and another How to Draw Anime.
These would be wonderful resources for drawing anime characters. As for their technology, How to Draw Mecha covers the giant machines and several smaller vehicles of common use.
