Actually I like kids. So the screaming kid is annoying, but I can filter it out. For some reason, the whining old lady is the one that makes my skin crawl. I had one in a restaurant that kept saying "I'm very disappointed, very disappointed" about everything. Food, company, restaurant, etc.

well, i have been in this situation, well the receiving end, I don't have any kids, but i am an aunt. People have to understand that they are not the only ones in a restaurant or movie theatre. If you have an out of control child, you need to make the best attempt to get control of them or you need to make the call to leave a public place. Now as for those of us that are having to deal with this in the third party since,.... well I am not patient, i can sometimes ignore it, but if i have had a bad day, I will leave, and i will be sure that the place of business is aware of why i am leaving and taking my business somewhere else. Sometimes it is hard to leave, you just ordered a nice meal, or paid $8 to see a movie, it is your choice, stay or go. And parents, we know kids are not always great, maybe consider hiring a sitter, and leaving them at home.

I can take the screaming kid, but hitting and kicking the back of the booth I can take about 30 seconds of that. I usually just turn around to the kid and in my sweetest mommy voice say "Please don't hit the back of my chair sweetie, ok?" The parents usually get a clue then. I've never had to ask twice.

Yes it has....and i generally ask to be moved. FAR from said screaming child. When I had my son, ages ago i refused to put others through this, so I left him with a sitter until he no longer acted like a beast from the wild. You really cannot tell the parents anything, just go to the right places and if it is a family restaurant then you are in for it anyway...i schedule my dinners out to detract by the hour from these things so it doesn't happen anymore anyway. Good Question!!!!!

I happen to babysit a 5 yr old and 3 yr old I know that screaming kid type thing well. I wouldn't even let it bother me because when my nieces do that to my brother it definitely embarasses him. I would just ignore it and give the parents my blessings for having to deal with that horrid little creature.

Hopefully, the parent is able to remove the child to calm them down, however, as a parent I know that it isn't always possible. It is very embarassing and most parents are well aware of the people's feelings around them. In that high stress situation, saying something to the parents probably would only cause conflict, unless you were offering some sort of assistance in a friendly or neighborly way.
