Abe Lincoln. He's satarized so many times that anyone wearing a large tophat is instantly recognizable as Abe Lincoln. There is no other president whose trademark and image are as recognizable.

It's really sad when people rate Bill Clinton over George Washington or Abraham Lincoln. Who's the most famous author? Al Gore? Does John Kerry hold the honors of most heroic?

Most famous to whom? I think in general, if you stopped people on the street and asked them to name presidents other than the sitting president I think the following would be mentioned most often:
*George Washington
*Abraham Lincoln
*Franklin Delano Roosevelt
*John F. Kennedy
*Jimmy Carter
*Ronald Reagan
*Bill Clinton

I think Carter, Reagan and Clinton would be mentioned because many people that would be asked would have been alive during their presidencies.

In general, I think the most famous President is George Washington.

There is absolutely no doubt: George Washington. We have one state and our nation's capital named after him. More streets are named after Washington than any other president. More counties are named after Washington than any other president. And to much of the world George Washington represents America better than any other president. There should be no serious debate on this point among well-read historians.

I think that George Washington is the most famous because he is the one that created this country and he kept the brittish from taking over and when the general of the militia died and no one stepped up he did and never lost one man
