I have a 2000 Jeep with 90,000 miles on it and we got it used with 60,000. Should I get a tuneup and/or other services? There's nothing obviously wrong with my car that I know of and I heard people say it's wasting money to pay a shop if your car might be in fine condition. But at the same time, I don't want to ignore something little and my car end up dying. What do you suggest?

you need your 90k service done. anybody that tells you not to do regular maintenance does not know what they are talking about.find a shop or dealer you trust and build a relationship with them. it will save you money in the long run.

I've never owned a car with electronic ignition or fuel injection, but they're supposed to go phenominal lengths of time without any service.
By the way, the weak link on Jeeps is the pumpkins. Be sure you check the fluid level on both front and rear pumpkins at least once a year. It's an expensive repair, and can be easily averted by being sure the gear oil level is maintained at the proper level.
Be sure you keep all the car's fluids clean, and the filters changed and you should be OK as long as it's running well.
My motto as long as I've been wrenching on cars has been "If it works, don't fix it". My wife and I drive a '66 Chevy that we bought in 1985, the year we got married.
Because we take a 2,000 mile road trip twice a year to visit the grandkids, I look under the cap in May and again in October. I clean off the dist cap contacts, surface and gap the points, clean and gap the plugs, do a transmission fluid service (change the Frantz filter) and check the gear oil in the diff.
In between I fix whatever goes south like water pump, alternator, u-joints, tires, brakes, lamps etc.
Truth be known, very little goes wrong with a car that's maintained properly. Some years go by without doing anything on our car. This year was not one of those years. I replaced the alternator 3 times (yes, in one year!), replaced the power steering pump, even though that didn't fix the problem, now I've got to replace other ps components. I've replaced leaky gaskets, repaired brake adjusters screwed up by the apprentice at the local aliginment shop (he put grease on them! They're supposed to be lubricated with graphite) and replaced worn tires. But now I'm rambling. Good luck with your Jeep.

Tune up is a preventive maintenance. Though you think there was no wrong on your car, you should have this done regularly to make sure everything is doing fine. The components of your car will have some slight wears, like the valves, regular adjustments/check-ups/tune-ups should be done to maintain the correct clearances. Should the valves clearances (an example only) are beyond the limits, abnormal and costly repairs will occur.

Ask a dealer what the original maintenance schedule was for the vehicle and change all fluids that should have been changed by This time and give it a complete tuneup assuming that nothing has been done, then just follow the maintenance schedule as needed with the peace of mind of knowing what has been done.

The spark plugs should go 100000 miles. You should replace the fuel filter soon. It would be a good idea to service the transmission. These are important to do!
Other than that, you might want to get a brake inspection to make sure that you have plenty of pad and shoe material left. That could save you some bucks in the long run.

If you have driven the car for 30,000 miles , yes it is definetly time for a tune up. You shouldnt wait until your car starts to show signs of a problem. By then it is too late. Regular tune ups and maintenence helps protect your car from developing problems.
