My mom said ACS told her I have to be 18 to drop out, but everyone else tells me I have to be 16. No matter where I go I keep getting different answers.
Please answer ONLY IF YOU ARE 100% SURE about what the drop out age in NYC is.

I have very good personal reasons to drop out. Good enough that my parents would agree.
I'm planning to get a GED, anyways please don't respond with anything else, but the answer to my question, thanks.

You can drop out at 16 IF your parents sign the paperwork. If they refuse to sign, you have to be 18.

In MI, it is 16. I had a child at 16 and went to work full time. The only catch was that I wasn't able to get my GED (WHICH I DID GET!) until I was 18 AND my high school class graduated. I wish I knew the actual answer. If it is 18, what about Job Corp? I found out that I could've gotten my GED at 16 thru Job Corp.... after I was 18 & had my GED.
Don't listen to anyone telling you that only losers and junkies drop out. Of course I'd encourage you not to, but it's your life and if you feel that you can live with this decision for the rest of your life, do it. How about homeschooling as another option?

I am 100% sure that dropouts are stupid whatever age they are, your mom should go upside your head.
Someone down there says GED, until the war the frekin Army wouldn't even take you with a GED, a High School education will get you no where in this country what do you think you will get with not even a High school diploma. Finish school go to college or trade school; get a job make some money, buy a house, and a car, and if you want to tell your mom you know whats best then, go for it.

16 is correct, but why drop out. If you were a mature person, you would know that a drop out usually never goes back to school to finish. Employers do not have to hire you at 16, your left job hunting with useless time spent trying to get what you want in life. Drop outs are quitters, people know this. Why should anyone think you can do a job, if you cannot even take time to finish school. For your own self, stay in school, you will be glad you did. As for as documented proof of the legal age your wanting to be posted, you must have a computer, look it up yourself, if you can not do this, stay in school, learn how to do something for yourself, like this question you asked. See what I jmean? you have a lot to learn if you cannot research this yourself.
