My boyfriends a college freshman (just turned 18) and I'm a highschool sophomore (15) so I can understand why they're skeptical but we've been dating for half a year in secret and he loves me. He said he'll wait till I'm out of highschool until we can date again but I want to know if there's anything else we can do about it. I can honestly say that I love him, and if nothing works we're both ready openly date and wait till I'm out of highschool till we can finally be together. But my parents think I'm to young and that I need to focus on school. It's just frusterating beyond belief.

Your parents aren't going to let you have this relationship. And they are right. He's 18 and in college, he needs to be with someone his own age. First of all your not old enough obviously if your sneaking around. Right now you think your sooo in love. He is probably the first guy to really pay any attention to you and you are just side tracked. You really need to focus on school and bettering yourself before you let some guy ruin it for you. If he says he will wait then put him to the test, make him wait, and you concentrate on yourself for now. It will be worth it in the long run, might not seem like it now but it will. You have your whole life ahead of you to spend with some man, right now find out who you really are.

Don't let your feelings cloud your judgement. I am sure you have probably felt what real love is, but sometimes other things MUST have precedence in your life over relationships. In this case, your education is the most important thing for you to be doing in your life right now. Your parents are actually right. Don't get too distracted to spend the appropriate time on your studies. You can always go back to your boyfriend in the future, but life moves faster as you get older. You can't make up for missed studies very easily. Trust me, I have been there.

Yes it is best to concentrate on school. Put it first and dating second. But it is perfectly fine to date as long as he shows your parents that he respects them and you. Also that he isnt going to get you pregnant and run, or anything like that. Your parents are correct in protecting you. They know better since they have been through alot more than you have. So if you take the time to listen and talk with them, you could gain some idea as to why they want you to enjoy your time at school.

When you can pay your own bills and make good decisions then they will believe you are old enough to be serious. Until then you are still in the learning age. If you cannot get up fix breakfast and be off to school keep your room and the rest of your share of the house all clean how can you be serious about anything else? See your parents point of view.

We parents forget what it's like to be your age, so bear with us all as we act like idiots on occasion. Still, when we act like idiots, it is only because we care about our kids and want what's best for them. You sound mature enough, but the key to success with what you want is to prove to your parents that you are mature enough. When kids say "why won't you let me....?" and "you just don't understand...", what we parents hear is "I'm going to throw a fit to get my way". Sounds crazy, but that's what we hear. My son is 17. It has been a challenge to raise him at times. Still, he is a good kid and I trust him beyond belief. He has earned my trust. He didn't always have it though. Through conversations we've had, where I've seen the maturity and wisdom of things that he says, through his positive attitude, his hard work when it comes to school, his demonstration to me that he is capable of making good choices, etc., he has earned my trust. When he asks for favors, if his attitude stinks, I'm like "no way!". If he's acted like the adult he wants me to treat him as, then I am willing to trust him to do certain things that might make me nervous from the simple fact that I am a parent and parents get nervous. It's what we do. Above all, when he treats me with maturity and respect, consideration and thoughtfulness, I am more likely to see him as capable of being trusted and able to make wise choices so that I don't have to worry about him. From the sound of your question, you sound like someone who would be able to do the same thing. You seem to have a good head on your shoulders. Try this approach with your parents. Then, be patient. They're not going to bend right away. They need to see this as who you are, not who you are trying to be in order to get what you want from them. We parents aren't stupid - remember, we were kids once too and have likely tried it all ourselves. If after doing all this, your parents still say "no - you're too young", then sad to say, you should listen to them. They have their own life experiences to back up the wisdom they are trying to pass on to you. Good luck. Hang in there.
