I hate to say this but the best way for a guy to get over what he is feeling is another woman. Just a one night stand would do the trick .You if your single or one of your Friends or even pay for one All the talk and being there for him to talk to isn't going to change a thing that just makes him think about her more .
What he really needs is that magic touch from a woman or time does heal all wounds but he will have to suffer that way.
If you really feel sorry for him and don't wont to see him suffer then get him laid .

Maybe it's too soon for him to focus on other people. The best thing you can do is get him past her first. Hang out with him, take him shopping, watch movies, go to dinner, etc. There'll come a time when he's ready to move on, but there's nothing you can do to get him there. Just be a good friend in the interim.

My wife divorced me 18 months ago, no reason really, we didn't fight, she went back to her first husband and said it was nothing I did. I can't get over her, everyone tries to tell me to move on, I know they are probably right, but until my heart is ready to let go, I honestly don't think anyone can get me to start over. I am still in lover with her today as much as I was 10 years ago when I met her. Only time will do it, at least I hope..

He's hurting bad, time and dating will probably work. She was dating, and moved on... it ain't wrong, and she isn't too blame too much for his hurt, she does have to do what's best for her, and unfortunatly it wasn't your best friend.
Wish I had a better solution to give, but it's happened to me a few times too, and nothing really takes away the sting.
It might take as long to get over someone as the time you were with them... and that's no fun.
My compliments for looking out for and trying to help your best friend, you rock.

You help him by letting him grieve, answering any questions he may have (he may ask the same one over and over), sympathizing with him, avoid telling him to forget her (he can't for a while), telling him he's wrong to think about her (he has to do that), and don't say, "You shouldn't feel that way."
Just be his friend. You can't fix him. He has to fix himself and he will.

You can't rush his feelings. Help him to see that he doesn't deserve to be treated that way and the young lady (if you want to call her that) doesn't deserve someone like him. Trust me her turn will come.
